Pedestrian crossingNorway
1. Pedestrian crossing
A pedestrian crossing is a designated place where pedestrians may cross a road. It is commonly indicated by road markings, traffic signs, signals or a combination of these measures.
Drivers must approach with appropriate caution and give way when required by local law. Pedestrians must also observe approaching traffic and follow any pedestrian signals or instructions from authorised traffic controllers.
When must drivers give way at a pedestrian crossing in Norway?
At a gangfelt without police or traffic-light control, drivers must give way to pedestrians on the crossing or about to enter it. Riding a bicycle across does not itself give pedestrian priority; someone walking the bicycle is treated as a pedestrian.

Are all pedestrian crossings controlled the same way in Norway?
No. The duty to give way to pedestrians on a gangfelt or about to enter it applies where traffic is not controlled by police or traffic lights. At a controlled crossing, follow the applicable police directions or signals and remain alert for pedestrians.

May I enter a pedestrian crossing if the road beyond it is blocked in Norway?
Wait before the crossing if traffic beyond it would force you to stop on it. When approaching a gangfelt, do not pass a vehicle or tram that blocks any part of your view of the crossing; this is not limited to cases where you can already see a pedestrian.
