Pedestrian zoneNorway
1. Pedestrian zone
A pedestrian zone is an area consisting of one or more streets that are reserved primarily for pedestrians. Motor-vehicle access is normally prohibited or restricted to authorised users, particular purposes or specified times.
Pedestrians may usually use the full width of the available road space. Rules concerning cyclists, deliveries, public transport, vehicle speed, stopping and parking depend on local traffic signs and regulations.
How should I recognise pedestrian-only access in Norway?
The official term is gågate. Motor access is restricted by the signs and permitted arrangements; the national traffic rules provide special duties for driving on a pedestrian street.

May cyclists ride in pedestrian areas in Norway?
Cyclists must travel at walking pace and give way to pedestrians. A gågate is different from a cycling-priority street where ordinary mixed-traffic road rules apply.

Which rules apply to vehicles admitted to pedestrian areas in Norway?
Admitted drivers must travel at walking pace and give way to pedestrians. Parking on a gågate is prohibited except where the applicable signs permit it, but bicycles and small electric motor vehicles may be parked where they cause no unnecessary hindrance or inconvenience. An entry exemption is not unrestricted parking permission.
