FootpathRomania
1. Footpath
A footpath is a path or part of a road intended primarily for pedestrian traffic. It may run alongside a road, through a park or residential area, or independently from roads used by motor vehicles.
A footpath may be reserved exclusively for pedestrians or may form part of a shared route with cyclists or other permitted users. Access, priority and permitted users depend on the traffic signs and local regulations applying to the path.
What does Romania call a roadside pavement?
The official term is trotuar. Pedestrians must walk on it where provided. A pavement is different from a pistă pentru biciclete, a cycle facility, even when the two run next to each other.

May I cycle on an ordinary Romanian pavement?
No. Cycling on a pavement is prohibited unless a cycle path has been provided there. Use that designated cycling part rather than treating the entire pavement as a cycling route.

Where should I walk when a Romanian road has no pavement?
Use the left-hand verge in your direction of travel. If there is no verge, walk as close as possible to the left edge of the carriageway. This places ordinary pedestrians facing approaching traffic; take care when entering or crossing the road.
