1. Expressway
An expressway is a road intended to carry through traffic efficiently, usually at higher speeds than ordinary roads. Expressways often have limited access, multiple lanes, separated carriageways or grade-separated junctions, but their design and legal status vary between countries.
An expressway is not always a motorway. It may have intersections, traffic lights or direct access, and the permitted road users, speed limits and special rules depend on local signs and regulations.
What speed limit applies to cars on an expressway in Ukraine?
For an ordinary car outside built-up areas, the general maximum is 110 km/h on a road with physically separated carriageways and 90 km/h on other roads, unless another applicable restriction exists. The car-symbol road designation alone does not permit the motorway maximum.

Who may use an expressway in Ukraine?
On a road reserved for cars, tractors, self-propelled machines and bicycles are prohibited. Pedestrians may use designated pedestrian paths, parking or rest areas and the permitted crossings. The 40 km/h vehicle-capability restriction applies to motorways, subject to the specially equipped-place exception; it does not automatically extend to a road marked with the road-for-cars sign. Follow the signed road restrictions.
