Pedestrian crossingUruguay
1. Pedestrian crossing
A pedestrian crossing is a designated place where pedestrians may cross a road. It is commonly indicated by road markings, traffic signs, signals or a combination of these measures.
Drivers must approach with appropriate caution and give way when required by local law. Pedestrians must also observe approaching traffic and follow any pedestrian signals or instructions from authorised traffic controllers.
When must drivers give way at a pedestrian crossing in Uruguay?
Drivers must give way to pedestrians at crossings designated for them under article 17(7). Approach ready to stop and follow any applicable signals or authorised traffic directions. A warning sign ahead does not replace the controls at the crossing itself.

Crossing for pedestrians.
Are all pedestrian crossings controlled the same way in Uruguay?
A warning that pedestrians may cross ahead is different from a marked or signal-controlled crossing. Look for the actual crossing marking, pedestrian signals and any supplemental signs.

May I enter a pedestrian crossing if the road beyond it is blocked in Uruguay?
Wait before the crossing until there is room beyond it; do not enter a junction if you may obstruct other traffic. On a two-way carriageway, overtaking is prohibited when approaching a pedestrian crossing. Respect pedestrian priority and do not pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians merely because another lane looks clear.
