1. Quitanieves
Un quitanieves es un vehículo equipado con una cuchilla u otro dispositivo para retirar nieve de carreteras y superficies pavimentadas. También puede llevar equipos para esparcir sal, gravilla u otros materiales que reduzcan el hielo y mejoren la adherencia.
Los conductores que se aproximen o sigan a un quitanieves deben reducir la velocidad, mantener distancia segura y evitar adelantar salvo que haya visibilidad y espacio suficientes. La nieve, sal u otros materiales expulsados pueden reducir la visibilidad y crear riesgos adicionales.
Are snowploughs recognised as road-maintenance vehicles in Belgium?
Yes. Belgian regulations specifically recognise vehicles used by road authorities or their contractors during winter for clearing snow or spreading substances on public roads to improve traffic safety.
Can Belgian snowploughs use orange-yellow flashing lights?
Yes. Vehicles used for the construction, maintenance, supervision or inspection of the road network may be equipped with one or two orange-yellow flashing lights visible in all directions.
Do orange-yellow flashing lights give a snowplough priority in Belgium?
No. Orange-yellow flashing lights warn other road users of the vehicle and its work but do not make it a priority vehicle. Drivers should nevertheless approach carefully, leave sufficient space and avoid interfering with road-maintenance operations.
