Seitenwind weht quer zur Fahrtrichtung und kann ein Fahrzeug seitlich versetzen oder seine Stabilität beeinträchtigen. Starke oder plötzliche Böen sind besonders gefährlich für Motorräder, Fahrräder, Wohnwagen, Anhänger und hohe Fahrzeuge. Fahrer sollten die Geschwindigkeit verringern, das Lenkrad sicher, aber entspannt halten und zusätzlichen Abstand zu anderen Verkehrsteilnehmern lassen. Besondere Vorsicht ist auf Brücken, exponierten Straßen sowie beim Vorbeifahren an großen Fahrzeugen oder beim Verlassen geschützter Bereiche erforderlich, wo eine plötzliche Änderung der Windstärke das Fahrzeug unerwartet versetzen kann.
