1. Zone
A traffic zone is an area in which a traffic rule applies throughout all included roads or road sections. The rule normally begins at a zone-entry sign and remains applicable until the corresponding end-of-zone sign is passed.
Zones may regulate speed, parking, access, vehicle categories, emissions or other traffic behaviour. The signs used, the roads covered and the effect of intersections or local exceptions depend on local traffic law.
How are local school-area traffic restrictions indicated in China?
Look for the local school warning, speed-limit, stopping and road-marking arrangements. For example, Shenzhen’s school-safety regulations require school signs nearby and no-stopping, warning and speed signs or markings on the road at the school entrance.

Does a school-area sign in China make all nearby roads one identical traffic zone?
Do not assume that it does. Read the specific restrictions and their scope on the road you are using. A warning about children and a numerical speed restriction perform different functions.

May I park outside a Chinese school merely because I am obeying its speed limit?
No. Check the stopping and parking signs and markings as well. Shenzhen’s school-area provisions require separate controls at the entrance; meeting a speed restriction does not remove a no-stopping restriction.
