1. Cycling street
A cycling street is a street designed or legally designated to give cyclists a prominent position in mixed traffic. Motor vehicles may usually enter, but they must adapt their speed and driving behaviour to the presence of cyclists.
Depending on the country, cyclists may be permitted to use more of the carriageway and motor vehicles may be prohibited from overtaking them. The speed limit, priority rules, permitted vehicles and beginning and end of the street depend on local traffic signs and regulations.
How should I interpret a cycling-priority street in Panama?
Read the street’s actual access signs. Decree 206/2021 defines ciclovía for occasional use by bicycles and other non-motorised mobility, and cicloruta for their exclusive use. A mixed street’s cycling role does not remove the applicable traffic controls or make it exclusively a bicycle road.
Lane for cyclists.
Which driving rules matter on a mixed cycling street in Panama?
Obey the actual speed, access and overtaking controls. Decree 206/2021 requires a motor driver overtaking a cyclist to pass on the left with at least 1.5 metres of lateral clearance. Wait if that cannot be done safely and lawfully; a cycling-route name does not remove the Traffic Regulations’ other overtaking prohibitions.
Which priority rules apply on cycling streets in Panama?
Cyclists and motorists must obey junction signs, signals and authorised traffic directions. A route’s cycling role does not automatically make bicycles the priority traffic at every side road.
