1. Expressway
An expressway is a road intended to carry through traffic efficiently, usually at higher speeds than ordinary roads. Expressways often have limited access, multiple lanes, separated carriageways or grade-separated junctions, but their design and legal status vary between countries.
An expressway is not always a motorway. It may have intersections, traffic lights or direct access, and the permitted road users, speed limits and special rules depend on local signs and regulations.
How do people refer to an expressway in Turkey?
The term bölünmüş yol means divided road. It describes separate carriageways for opposite directions and should not be treated as automatically equivalent to the controlled-access motorway category.

What speed limit applies to cars on an expressway in Turkey?
For an ordinary car, the general maximum on a divided road outside built-up areas is 110 km/h. Motorway limits are different. Obey lower posted limits and the restrictions for your vehicle.

Does a divided road in Turkey automatically have motorway access restrictions?
Do not decide access from the central divider alone. Check whether the road is designated as a motorway and obey signs prohibiting particular users or vehicles. A divided-road layout is not itself the motorway designation.

Do all vehicles have the same divided-road maximum in Turkey?
No. The official speed table sets separate limits for cars, motorcycles, buses and goods vehicles. Use the limit for your actual vehicle and road category, including any lower signed restriction.
