1. Footpath
A footpath is a path or part of a road intended primarily for pedestrian traffic. It may run alongside a road, through a park or residential area, or independently from roads used by motor vehicles.
A footpath may be reserved exclusively for pedestrians or may form part of a shared route with cyclists or other permitted users. Access, priority and permitted users depend on the traffic signs and local regulations applying to the path.
What does Turkey’s blue circular pedestrian-path sign mean?
It marks a Mecburi Yaya Yolu, a compulsory pedestrian path. Pedestrians must use the indicated route, and drivers are not entitled to use it. The manual distinguishes this separate walking route from an ordinary roadside pavement, yaya kaldırımı.

Does every roadside pavement in Turkey need the compulsory pedestrian-path sign?
No. The official manual specifies that this sign is for pedestrian paths separated from a neighbouring road or street. It should not be used for ordinary pavements beside roads open to vehicle traffic. A roadside pavement remains a pedestrian facility without that particular sign.

How does a compulsory pedestrian path end in Turkey?
The corresponding end-of-compulsory-pedestrian-path sign marks the end of the requirement established by the start sign. It does not by itself make the following surface a cycle route or remove the need to obey other access signs.
