1. Disabled parking
Disabled parking refers to parking spaces and parking privileges reserved for people with disabilities who meet the applicable eligibility requirements. Reserved spaces are normally identified by the international wheelchair symbol and are positioned to provide easier access to nearby facilities.
Use of a disabled parking space generally requires a valid disabled parking permit or card. The permit normally belongs to the eligible person rather than to a particular vehicle and may only be used when that person is driving or travelling in the vehicle.
Who may park in a disabled parking space in Belgium?
A vehicle may use a parking space reserved for people with disabilities when it is being used by the holder of a valid disabled parking card. The card holder may be either the driver or a passenger.
Is disabled parking always free in Belgium?
No. Free parking depends on the municipality or parking operator. Some municipalities require the vehicle’s number plate to be registered for a concession, so check both the charge and registration rules. A disability parking card alone does not waive every local payment requirement.
Does a Belgian disability parking card replace the parking disc?
Yes. When properly displayed, the recognised disability parking card replaces the disc and exempts the vehicle from the Road Code’s limited-parking-time rules.
