Advisory speedSpain
1. Advisory speed
An advisory speed is a recommended speed for a particular road section or hazard rather than a legally imposed maximum speed. It may be shown near bends, junctions, steep gradients, roadworks or other locations where a lower speed can help drivers negotiate the road safely.
Drivers should treat an advisory speed as guidance for safe driving conditions and should travel even more slowly when weather, visibility, traffic or road conditions require it. A separate legally binding speed limit must still be obeyed.
What does Spain’s blue advisory-speed sign recommend?
It advises against exceeding the displayed speed in km/h, even when weather, road and traffic conditions are favourable. Official wording is Velocidad máxima aconsejada. If placed beneath a danger warning, it concerns the section where that hazard exists.

Does Spain’s recommended speed range impose a compulsory minimum?
No. The sign named Intervalo aconsejado de velocidades recommends travelling between the indicated figures in favourable conditions. It is different from a compulsory minimum-speed sign. Conditions can require a speed below the recommended range.

Does the end of a Spanish speed recommendation remove the legal maximum?
No. The relevant end sign cancels the advised maximum or advised range, not a separate regulatory restriction. Continue to obey the applicable legal maximum and drive more slowly if safety requires it.
