Shared-use pathHungary
1. Shared-use path
A shared-use path is a path or part of a road intended for use by both pedestrians and cyclists. Unlike facilities where pedestrians and cyclists have clearly separated sections, users of a shared-use path normally travel within the same general space.
Because users may travel at very different speeds, cyclists should approach pedestrians carefully, adapt their speed and leave sufficient space when passing. The permitted users, priority rules and any speed restrictions depend on the local traffic signs and regulations.
What does Hungary call a shared walking and cycling path?
The official term is gyalog- és kerékpárút. It is designated for pedestrians, wheelchair users and two-wheeled bicycles. If markings separate pedestrian and bicycle traffic, each group must use its allocated part.

May I use the carriageway if pedestrians block progress on a Hungarian shared path?
Yes. The rules expressly allow cyclists to use the carriageway where pedestrian traffic on the combined path would prevent their onward movement. This is a specific exception; it does not authorise forcing a passage through pedestrians.

Can I apply Hungarian walking and cycling zone speed limits to every shared path?
No. The general maximum for cycling on a combined walking and cycling path is 20 km/h. A separately signed walking and cycling zone has its own rules: 20 km/h on the part reserved for cycling and 10 km/h on its other parts. Identify the actual designation and slow further whenever conditions require.
