6. Bus stop
A bus stop is a designated place where buses stop to allow passengers to board or leave. It may be identified by a sign, shelter, raised platform, road marking or other public-transport infrastructure and can be located beside the road or in a specially constructed stopping area.
Drivers approaching a bus stop should watch carefully for buses, pedestrians and passengers crossing or entering the roadway. Parking or stopping restrictions may apply around bus stops to keep the area accessible and visible.

What stopping or parking restrictions apply at bus stops in Portugal?
In Portugal, stopping and parking are prohibited within 25 metres before and 5 metres beyond a public-transport stop sign, measured in the direction of travel. For vehicles running on rails, the protected distance before the sign is 6 metres instead of 25. Obey any additional applicable signs and restrictions.

May I briefly drop off a passenger at a bus stop in Portugal?
Do not assume that immediate passenger use is exempt from every stopping restriction. Check the local sign and the Code’s applicable exceptions and choose a lawful alternative when stopping is prohibited.

What should I do near a stopped bus in Portugal?
In Portuguese built-up areas, drivers must slow down and, if necessary, stop when a public passenger-transport vehicle moves off from its stop. The bus driver must signal immediately before moving and take precautions to avoid an accident. Continue to watch for passengers and do not force a dangerous manoeuvre.
