Built-up areaSerbia
1. Built-up area
A built-up area is an area containing concentrated buildings, streets and regular local activity. Drivers should expect more pedestrians, cyclists, intersections, parked vehicles, public transport and vehicles entering or leaving properties.
Many countries apply special traffic rules and lower default speed limits within built-up areas. The area may be identified by entrance and exit signs, street lighting or other legal criteria, so drivers must follow local signs and regulations.
How do people refer to a built-up area in Serbia?
The Serbian term is naselje. The law defines a built-up, functionally connected area for living and working whose boundaries are marked by traffic signs.

How can you recognise a built-up area in Serbia?
Observe the official settlement entrance and end signs. They establish where the built-up-area rules apply; nearby houses alone do not replace the signed boundary.
What speed limit applies to cars in a built-up area in Serbia?
The ordinary maximum is 50 km/h, unless signs establish another limit. On a suitable road, an authorised sign may permit up to 80 km/h. Lower restrictions remain binding.
Must I allow a bus to leave its stop in a Serbian built-up area?
Yes. Within a settlement, allow a bus to join traffic lawfully from its stop. Approach at a speed that allows you to respond safely when it moves off.
