1. Footpath
A footpath is a path or part of a road intended primarily for pedestrian traffic. It may run alongside a road, through a park or residential area, or independently from roads used by motor vehicles.
A footpath may be reserved exclusively for pedestrians or may form part of a shared route with cyclists or other permitted users. Access, priority and permitted users depend on the traffic signs and local regulations applying to the path.
What does Serbia call a roadside pavement?
The law uses trotoar, тротоар, for a pavement intended for pedestrians. A designated pedestrian path is another walking facility. Pedestrian facilities must be distinguished from a biciklistička staza, a cycle path.
Must pedestrians use an available pavement in Serbia?
Yes. Where a road has a pavement, another surface intended for pedestrians or a suitable surface beside the carriageway, pedestrians must use it. Walking on the carriageway is a fallback covered by separate positioning and safety rules.
What should I do if an obstacle blocks a Serbian pavement?
Before stepping onto the carriageway to pass the obstacle, assess the distance and speed of approaching vehicles and make sure doing so will not endanger traffic. Do not step out suddenly. Return to the pedestrian surface when it becomes usable.
