1. Crosswind

A crosswind is a wind that blows across the direction you're driving, rather than from directly in front (headwind) or behind (tailwind). It can be especially dangerous at high speeds, as it can cause your vehicle to swerve or drift, making it harder to stay in your lane. A crosswind can sneak up and push your car sideways, but with firm hands, slower speed, and steady focus, you can drive safely through it.

  • Expect sudden sideways wind gusts, vehicle may drift from its lane.
  • Higher risk for light vehicles and high-sided vehicles (e.g. vans, trucks).
  • Reduce speed and keep a firm grip on the steering wheel.
  • Give extra space to vulnerable vehicles (e.g. trucks, motorcycles).
