Built-up areaSlovenia
1. Built-up area
A built-up area is an area containing concentrated buildings, streets and regular local activity. Drivers should expect more pedestrians, cyclists, intersections, parked vehicles, public transport and vehicles entering or leaving properties.
Many countries apply special traffic rules and lower default speed limits within built-up areas. The area may be identified by entrance and exit signs, street lighting or other legal criteria, so drivers must follow local signs and regulations.
How do people refer to a built-up area in Slovenia?
The Slovenian term is naselje. The official settlement signs identify where the built-up-area traffic rules begin and end.

How can you recognise a built-up area in Slovenia?
The yellow settlement sign 2434 (Rob naselja) marks where settlement driving rules begin. The crossed-out sign 2435 marks the end. Read these together with numerical speed signs: a specifically authorised limit can apply on a particular road through the settlement.

Does a Slovenian urban speed limit apply to every special traffic zone?
No. A specially signed traffic-calmed area (območje umirjenega prometa) is limited to 10 km/h. A shared traffic area normally has a 20 km/h maximum, or 30 km/h where the statutory conditions and prescribed signs allow it. Follow the category and speed signs rather than assuming the ordinary urban maximum applies everywhere.
