Um sinal de proibição indica aos condutores o que não é permitido numa determinada estrada ou situação. Impõe restrições como trânsito proibido, ultrapassagem proibida, estacionamento proibido, limites de velocidade ou proibição de certos tipos de veículos. O objetivo é indicar claramente ações proibidas para garantir segurança, manter a fluidez do trânsito e proteger utentes vulneráveis.
