2. Zone

A traffic zone is an area in which a traffic rule applies throughout all included roads or road sections. The rule normally begins at a zone-entry sign and remains applicable until the corresponding end-of-zone sign is passed.

Zones may regulate speed, parking, access, vehicle categories, emissions or other traffic behaviour. The signs used, the roads covered and the effect of intersections or local exceptions depend on local traffic law.

How do people refer to traffic zones in Mexico?

Mexican urban design guidance uses zona 30 for an area intended for speeds no higher than 30 km/h, supported by traffic-calming measures. School and other vulnerable-user areas also have specific safety requirements.

Where does a zone rule apply in Mexico?

Follow the speed and area signing on the roads covered by the local arrangement. A zone 30 is an area treatment; a single 30 km/h sign does not by itself prove that every surrounding street belongs to that area.

Does the name Zone 30 override a lower Mexican school-area restriction?

No. The national mobility law provides lower maximums for certain vulnerable-user areas, including 20 km/h in school areas on secondary and tertiary roads. Follow the applicable category and any lower local restriction.
