2. Motorway
A motorway is a road specially designed and signposted for motor traffic. Motorways normally have separate carriageways for opposing traffic, controlled access through designated entrances and exits, no direct access to neighbouring properties, and no level crossings with other roads, railways or paths.
Special traffic rules apply on motorways. The permitted road users, speed limits, lane rules, tolls and emergency procedures vary between countries, so drivers must follow the local traffic signs and regulations.

How do people refer to a motorway in Norway?
Norwegian law uses motorveg for a motorway. A motortrafikkveg is a separate road category for motor vehicles.

What speed limit applies to cars on a motorway in Norway?
Follow the posted limit. Motorway limits vary by section and commonly include 80, 90, 100 or 110 km/h. A motorway designation does not mean that 110 km/h is allowed everywhere.

Who may use a motorway in Norway?
Only motor vehicles or combinations that may legally travel at at least 40 km/h on a level road are normally admitted. Mopeds are prohibited. The admission rule does not override slower driving required by traffic or safety.
