1. Verge

A verge is a strip of soil along a road and is often planted with grass, plants or trees. Road signs are often placed in the roadside. If the road is too narrow to cross another vehicle, you can move on the roadside.

  • No parking on the verge (unless allowed by local laws).
  • Do not drive on or over the verge unless entering/exiting a driveway.
  • Yield to pedestrians if using the verge (e.g., when pulling into a property).
  • Do not obstruct public utilities (fire hydrants, streetlights, etc.).
  • Do not walk on the verge unless there's no footpath available.
  • Be cautious near driveways where vehicles may cross the verge.
  • Tip: Always check local regulations, as some areas allow limited verge parking or walking when footpaths are unavailable!
