Shared-use pathSweden
7. Shared-use path
A shared-use path is a path or part of a road intended for use by both pedestrians and cyclists. Unlike facilities where pedestrians and cyclists have clearly separated sections, users of a shared-use path normally travel within the same general space.
Because users may travel at very different speeds, cyclists should approach pedestrians carefully, adapt their speed and leave sufficient space when passing. The permitted users, priority rules and any speed restrictions depend on the local traffic signs and regulations.
What does Sweden call a combined walking and cycling path?
The term is gång- och cykelbana. Check whether the route is undivided or allocates separate walking and cycling parts. A combined route is different from a pedestrian-only gångbana.

Which side should I walk on a Swedish shared-use path?
Where possible, walk on the left-hand side of an undivided walking and cycling path. This helps you face approaching cyclists. On a divided facility, use the part assigned to pedestrians instead.

Which side should cyclists use on a Swedish shared-use path?
Cyclists normally keep to the right. Ride with care and adapt to other users, particularly walkers. The different walking and cycling positioning rules do not create permission to pass dangerously or occupy an allocated pedestrian section.
