79. Convoy

A convoy is a group of vehicles travelling together as an organised group, usually following the same route and destination. Convoys may consist of ordinary vehicles, military vehicles, exceptional transports or vehicles participating in an organised journey.

Drivers travelling in a convoy should maintain a safe distance, follow the applicable traffic rules and avoid obstructing other traffic. Being part of a convoy does not automatically give vehicles special priority unless specific laws, escorts or traffic-control measures apply.

Should vehicles in a convoy maintain a safe distance?

Yes. Drivers should maintain sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead so they can react safely and so that other traffic can interact with the convoy where permitted.
