6. Footpath
A footpath is a path or part of a road intended primarily for pedestrian traffic. It may run alongside a road, through a park or residential area, or independently from roads used by motor vehicles.
A footpath may be reserved exclusively for pedestrians or may form part of a shared route with cyclists or other permitted users. Access, priority and permitted users depend on the traffic signs and local regulations applying to the path.

How does Russia distinguish a pedestrian path from a roadside pavement?
The rules use пешеходная дорожка for a pedestrian path and тротуар for a roadside pavement. A walking and cycling path is a separate category. Check the symbols and any division of the path rather than assuming every walking facility has identical access rules.

Can cyclists use Russian pavements or pedestrian paths?
The rules provide age-related permissions and conditional exceptions. Riders over 14 may use a pavement or pedestrian path when the specified cycling facilities, carriageway edge and verge cannot be used, or when accompanying a child cyclist under 14 or transporting a child under seven in the permitted way.

What must a cyclist do if riding on a Russian footpath endangers pedestrians?
Dismount and follow the pedestrian rules. The cycling exceptions do not permit endangering or obstructing other users. Where cyclists and pedestrians share the same space, pedestrian priority and the relevant safety duties still apply.
