80. Disabled parking

Disabled parking refers to parking spaces and parking privileges reserved for people with disabilities who meet the applicable eligibility requirements. Reserved spaces are normally identified by the international wheelchair symbol and are positioned to provide easier access to nearby facilities.

Use of a disabled parking space generally requires a valid disabled parking permit or card. The permit normally belongs to the eligible person rather than to a particular vehicle and may only be used when that person is driving or travelling in the vehicle.

How does free accessible street parking work in Paris?

Vehicles transporting someone with a valid CMI-S disability parking card or European disability parking card may use eligible paid on-street spaces without a parking charge. In Paris, a free Ticket HANDI or recognised Handi'Stat registration is normally needed to activate the exemption for paid spaces. Different municipalities may use different procedures.

Does a disabled parking card remove every time or display requirement in Paris?

No. A Ticket HANDI is valid for 24 consecutive hours and a new ticket is needed after that; a vehicle registered in Handi’Stat may stay up to seven consecutive days. Reserved accessible bays also have a seven-day limit. Display the original valid card in reserved bays and when using a Ticket HANDI; it need not be displayed in a paid bay for a registered Handi’Stat vehicle.

Can a French municipality impose a time limit on CMI parking concessions?

Yes, but not below 12 hours. This concerns the CMI parking concession. Car parks with entry and exit equipment operable from the vehicle may still charge.
