217. Coolant
Coolant is a fluid that circulates through a vehicle's cooling system to remove excess heat from the engine or other components. It usually contains water mixed with antifreeze and corrosion inhibitors so that the cooling system can operate safely across a wide range of temperatures.
The coolant level should be checked according to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. The correct coolant specification must be used, and the cooling system should only be opened when it is safe to do so because hot coolant can be under pressure.

Can coolant be part of the Belgian practical driving test?
Yes. During the category B practical examination in Flanders, the candidate may be asked to show where the coolant level is checked.
What must you demonstrate when asked about coolant during the Flemish driving test?
You must open the bonnet and indicate where the coolant level can be checked. If the vehicle only has an electronic coolant-level indicator, you must show where that information appears on the dashboard.
Do you have to measure the coolant level during the practical test?
The examination check focuses on identifying where the coolant level is checked or displayed. After opening the bonnet, you must also close it correctly and make sure it is securely closed before returning to the vehicle.
