76. Parking disc

A parking disc is a device used to indicate the time a vehicle was parked in an area where parking duration is limited. The driver sets the disc to the required arrival time and displays it clearly inside the vehicle.

Parking-disc systems are commonly used in blue zones or other time-limited parking areas. The permitted parking duration, operating hours and method for setting the disc depend on national or local rules and the traffic signs in place.

How do you set a parking disc in Germany?

Set the disc to the next half-hour mark following arrival. For example, an arrival at 10:10 is shown as 10:30. The disc must be readable from outside and the applicable maximum stay must be observed.

Can a broken German parking-ticket machine make parking free for unlimited time?

No. If a required machine is out of order, German section 13 generally allows parking only up to the stated maximum stay using a correctly displayed parking disc. Check any additional rules at the location.
